Ukraine Crisis: The Impact on Children
Since 2022, the war in Ukraine has deeply affected millions of children and families. Bombings, displacement, and the destruction of schools have disrupted nearly every part of a child’s life—especially their right to safety, learning, and emotional wellbeing.
Children have been forced to flee their homes, often separated from loved ones, and many now live in constant fear. The war has damaged over 3,000 educational institutions, limiting access to schooling and pushing kids into unfamiliar online or makeshift classrooms with little support.
Beyond the loss of education, the trauma runs deep. War leaves lasting emotional scars. According to UNICEF, more than 1.5 million children in Ukraine are at risk of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health challenges.
At Global Education Connection, we believe every child deserves a chance to learn and heal. Our efforts in Ukraine aim to restore a sense of normalcy, provide safe learning spaces, and support children as they rebuild their futures—with hope, care, and opportunity.
Our Response
In response, Global Education Connection launched its very first project in Ukraine. Our team traveled into the country to meet children directly impacted by the Russian invasion. In partnership with local NGO Ridni, we distributed essential educational materials—like notebooks, pencils, pads, and art supplies—to refugee children from some of the hardest-hit regions. These supplies offered a small way to support their learning and give them space to express themselves during an incredibly difficult time.
Your donation helps provide essential resources, education, and advocacy for refugees worldwide. Join us in making a lasting impact—every contribution counts.
